0.0.3 wrapped up, progress towards 0.0.4


it took a bit longer than I would've liked (real life things took more out of me than expected), but everything i wanted to do for v0.0.3 is done! it's mostly been behind-the-scenes work, but here's a general summary of the changes since 0.0.2:

  • sprites to go with the portraits!
  • a very simple overworld where you can move your custom elf around and talk to npcs or examine things and collide with tents
  • a dialogue system to display formatted text onscreen with matching portraits when relevant
  • better behind-the-scenes stuff including early architecture for config options and key remapping among others
  • a bunch of ui and environment asset work to actually display all of this

since this was mostly about setting up systems and less about content, v0.0.3 is not going to include a playable demo because you have essentially the same cc options as 0.0.2 followed by maybe 30 seconds of gameplay (depending on your reading speed) until you exhaust all the test dialogue.

the good  news though is that this means v0.0.4 is going to be almost entirely focused on adding content to fill out these new systems, and will feature a demo! i still need to add a couple things to the dialogue system, but after that i'll be adding new cc options (including the frequently-requested option to change eyebrows) and starting on adding some conversations with branching paths to test out.
